Do you find it rude/irritating when people respond with one word answers?

I have been friends with this guy when we were in college, we only just got in touch with each other he always wants to meet up but whenever I try to make conversation he just answers with "I'm ok" or "I am in plymouth tomorrow". When we did meet up he was quiet and talked about his village he lives in but didn't seem to get any of my jokes didn't laugh at all. He hasn't text me again but he wanted me to borrow some DVDs so I need to give them back. I am trying to arrange it but he only gives me one word answers....what should I do? don't you find this annoying?
