HELP! I want to be a police officer!!?

I work a 40 hour a week job, and I've been there about a year. I am 19 years old and graduated highschool last June. I have a 6 month old daughter and a fianc� whom I love very much. we plan on getting married so my question is this...if I want to be a police officer what do you think is the best route? I hear that police forces like if you work somewhere for an extended period of time (3-4 years), so should I do that plus college? Except i hear you shouldnt put all your eggs in one basket by going strictly for criminal justice...Or do you think getting married sooner and joining the military would be a better idea? Somebody please help I am determined and my ultimate goal is to be a state trooper but just have no idea where to start!!! Please help me! Thank you!
