I need help finding good authors and good books i would like to read...any suggestions?

have any of you seen the movie Stranger Than Fiction? well if you have, do you remember the author in the story who was writing the book and narrorating harold cricks life? the books she was writing sound like the books i would like to read if any of you remember what they seemed like, or a book like harold cricks life, but fiction. i just recently got into reading and am having troubles finding books that i like and can relate to. so far the books i've read and liked are Ender's Game, which was ok, and Flowers For Algernon, which I absolutely loved, so if you could help me find good books, that would be awesome, but kind of keep in mind books like that author was writing in Stranger Than Fiction.
